Bondi Wear as as brand is becoming well known for stylish, modern design and a contemporary feel, with only the occasional nod to old-school surf culture, as seen in our ‘surf’s  up’ yellow and black design. For this reason, we decided to modernise the old cliché prints like palm trees, blue waves with little white curls on top and tropical fruits.

We’ve gone a bit more sophisticated but still kept things fun with our first ‘beach food’ print – the summer ice cream board shorts.

This print also pays homage to the streets guys who parade up and down the beach on the hot and thirsty summer days we get here in Australia selling cooling ice creams and icy poles. Where would we all be without them we wonder?

Boardshorts have been known for being garish and very ‘Hawaiian’ in the past, but Bondi Wear is looking to change all that. The major board shorts designers have certainly made a start and introduced more interesting geometric patterning, and in some cases made block colours on board shorts look cool, but we believe we can take things further. We hope you agree too.

It’s winter right now in Sydney, though the last week the weather has really been more appropriate for ice creams and barbecues than scarves, heaters and hot chocolates, but the water’s too cold for swimming unless you’re one of the famous Bondi Icebergs. Bondi Icebergs members have to swim every day of the year in the ocean to keep their membership.

Life’s all about summer, warm sun, great waves and perfect memories and for us, that will come when it’s 30 degrees on the sand and we hear that long-awaited call ‘ice cream’ ‘icy poles’ ‘cold drinks’. For us, that’s when summer has truly arrived. Not a moment before.
